How does the CeQur Simplicity insulin patch work?
The CeQur Simplicity insulin patch is meant to be worn on your abdomen for up to three days.
You’ll start by filling the patch with anywhere between 100 to 200 units of rapid-acting insulin (Humalog or Novolog) depending on your personal insulin needs.
Then, after using an alcohol swab to sanitize the selected area of your abdomen, you’ll follow the easy insertion steps. After the insertion needle quickly retracts, it leaves a small, flexible cannula in your subcutaneous tissue (body fat) that will deliver your insulin.
To actually deliver a dose of insulin when you’re eating or correcting a high blood sugar, you simply squeeze the buttons on both sides of the patch. Each simultaneous squeeze of these buttons delivers two units of rapid-acting insulin. To deliver larger amounts of insulin, you simply squeeze multiple times, adding up to your intended dose.
After three days—or earlier if the patch runs out of insulin—you’ll remove the patch, clean the area with an alcohol swab and prepare another location on your abdomen for a new patch.
