Say Hello to BeyondType2.org in French, German and Italian!

 2022-10-20

Thursday, October 20, 2022—In a continued effort to serve the global diabetes community, we’re excited to announce the expansion of Beyond Type 2 with the launch of websites in French, German and Italian!

Beyond Type 2 is a network of digital platforms, already in English and Spanish, for everyone impacted by type 2 diabetes to share our stories, get connected to the community, and find critical resources on topics from daily management to mental health.

A type 2 diabetes diagnosis often carries shame and stigma, which can inhibit us from finding the best support and care available to us. Beyond Type 2 aims to educate, empower and connect all people living with type 2 diabetes, so we can live beyond our diagnosis.

“Beyond Type 1 is excited to launch these three new platforms to provide diabetes resources and to share personal stories for and from the French, German and Italian-speaking type 2 diabetes communities,” said Mariana Gomez, vice president of international markets, Beyond Type 1. “This multi-language expansion of Beyond Type 2 helps ensure our commitment to all people impacted by diabetes—regardless of their location or language.”

More than 61 million people in Europe live with diabetes, and by 2045 the number will rise to 69 million. French, German and Italian are three of Europe’s top five most commonly spoken languages, making the new platforms an invaluable resource for many. Additionally, Germany and Italy have some of the largest populations of people living with diabetes in Europe.

“While progress has been made to combat the stigma of living with type 2 diabetes, there is still work to be done,” says T’ara Smith, director of Beyond Type 2. “I’m proud of the resources and community we’ve built thus far, and I’m thrilled to share it with others around the globe. It will take everybody worldwide and the power of our combined voices to truly redefine what it means to be a person living with type 2 diabetes.”

Since Beyond Type 2 launched in 2019, its English and Spanish web and social platforms have grown to serve a network of nearly half a million individuals impacted by type 2 diabetes. In 2020, the BT2xADA app was launched to provide a safe, closed space for people with type 2 diabetes to connect with others in various forums, including monthly virtual meetups.

This multi-language expansion of Beyond Type 2 was made possible with support from Lilly. French, German and Italian are the first of several languages Beyond Type 2 will launch.

Beyond Type 2 operates as a platform of registered 501(c)3 nonprofit organization Beyond Type 1, whose mission is to improve the lives of those impacted by diabetes. Beyond Type 1 offers content in nine languages.
