Beyond Type 1 was founded in 2015 by Nick Jonas, Juliet de Baubigny, Sarah Lucas + Sam Talbot with a focus on education, advocacy and the path to a cure for type 1 diabetes. Through platforms, programs, resources and grants, Beyond Type 1 is uniting the global diabetes community and providing solutions to improve lives today. A new model of philanthropy, Beyond Type 1 aims to change what it means to live with chronic illness.
The Board of Directors is the governing body for Beyond Type 1 and Beyond Type 2, providing ultimate oversight for all organization activities and affairs. The Board of Directors work closely with Staff and Leadership Council to ensure alignment with the organization’s mission and strategic goals, as well as the long-term sustainability and success of the organization.

Nate Checketts, Chairman
Nate is the Co-Founder & CEO of Rhone, a premium men’s activewear company founded in 2014. Prior to Rhone, Nate worked for and consulted with some of the biggest tech and entertainment properties in the world including Cisco, The NFL, Legends, FanVision and Sport Radar, and serves on the board of Veritone. Nate graduated from Brigham Young University with a BA in Finance and is an avid entrepreneur who founded 4 companies before the age of 30. Nate was diagnosed with Type 1 at the age of 25. He and his wife Dayna reside in Connecticut with their boys Gabriel, William and Nicholas.
Juliet de Baubigny
Juliet is a General Partner at Bond and focuses on emerging technology companies in the U.S. and Europe. She is actively involved with investments in Spotify, Omio, Brex, FabFitFun, and Spotahome. Prior to joining Bond, Juliet was a Senior Partner at Kleiner Perkins. Over an 18-year career she worked closely with a broad number of companies including Amazon, Google, Nest, Bloom Energy, Chegg, and Beyond Meat. She has advised founders and CEOs on company building, leadership development, and strategic partnerships. Juliet is a passionate champion of innovation and philanthropy, and is a member of the board of Product (RED). Juliet holds a Bachelor’s degree in Business from the Newcastle Business School, Northumbria University, Newcastle upon Tyne, England. Her son Nicolas was diagnosed with Type 1 in 2012 at the age of five.Greg Dooley
Greg and his wife, Kristina, are the proud parents of triplets, Mia, Isabella and Max. His daughter, Isabella, was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes in 2012 at the age of 2. Greg previously served on the Board of JDRF Northeast Ohio, is an active Type 1 diabetes advocate and, together with his wife, shares his family’s journey with Type 1 via social media @InspiredByIsabella. Greg is a finance executive at Goodyear and resides in Ohio with his family.Priyanka Chopra Jonas
Priyanka is a multi-faceted talent and one of the most recognized personalities in the world. She is the recipient of numerous awards as an actor and producer, with more than sixty international and Hollywood films to her credit. The Padma Shri, one of India’s highest civilian honors, was conferred on her in 2016. Priyanka is a global UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador, and recipient of the prestigious Danny Kaye Humanitarian award. She is also a Global Citizen ambassador, and is involved in a number of efforts to protect children’s rights and to promote the education of girls around the world. She lives in Los Angeles with her husband, Nick, and Diana, Gino, and Panda, their three dogs.Nick Jonas
Nick was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes at the age of thirteen. The multi-platinum selling recording artist, talented actor and philanthropist continues to support charitable causes that are close to his heart while encouraging youth to follow their dreams in spite of their struggles. He has served as an advocate for a variety of important issues, including health and education for our youth, human rights and most notably diabetes.Tracey McCarter
Tracey McCarter has been a part of the organization since its inception in 2015 when she served on the organization’s Leadership Council. In 2018, she was elected to the Board of Directors. In 2022, Tracey served as the Interim CEO for five months. For over a decade, she has served as a dedicated philanthropist, raising millions of dollars for type 1 efforts since her daughter Charlize was diagnosed in 2009 at the age of 4. She was recognized in 2017 by JDRF’s Orange County chapter as its Gala Honoree, after years of service to JDRF efforts in California. Prior to joining the world of philanthropy, she held a variety of operations, marketing, and managerial positions at various companies. She currently serves on the Spouse & Partner Community Board for the Young Presidents’ Organization (YPO) and lives in Scottsdale, Arizona with her husband Josh and daughters Sydney and Charlize.Meet the Beyond Type 1 Team and Leadership Council
